English as a Foreign or Second Language إختصارات هامة - اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة ثانية

TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) are all also used.
EAL (English as an additional language),
ESD (English as a second dialect),
EIL (English as an international language),
ELF (English as a lingua franca),
ESP (English for special purposes, or English for specific purposes),
EAP (English for academic purposes).
ELL (English language learner),
LEP (limited English proficiency)
CLD (culturally and linguistically diverse).
IELTS إختبار
There are two versions of the IELTS: the Academic Version and the General Training Version:
* The Academic Version is intended for those who want to enroll in universities and other institutions of higher education and for professionals such as medical doctors and nurses who want to study or practice in an English-speaking country.
* The General Training Version is intended for those planning to undertake non-academic training or to gain work experience, or for immigration purposes.
IELTS is accepted by most Australian, British, Canadian, Irish, New Zealand and South African academic institutions, over 1,800 academic institutions in the United States, and various professional organisations. It is also a requirement for immigration to Australia and Canada. This has been criticised in Canada, because the English accents employed in the Listening section of the IELTS are far removed from typical Canadian accents.
In 2007, IELTS tested over a million candidates in a single 12-month period for the first time ever, making it the world's most popular English language test for higher education and immigration.
IELTS characteristics
The IELTS incorporates the following features:
* A variety of accents and writing styles presented in text materials in order to minimise linguistic bias.
* IELTS tests the ability to listen, read, write and speak in English.
* Band scores used for each language sub-skill (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking). The Band Scale ranges from 0 ("Did not attempt the test") to 9 ("Expert User").
* The speaking module - a key component of IELTS. This is conducted in the form of a one-to-one interview with an examiner. The examiner assesses the candidate as he or she is speaking, but the speaking session is also recorded for monitoring as well as re-marking in case of an appeal against the banding given.
* IELTS is developed with input from item writers from around the world. Teams are located in the USA, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and other English speaking nations.

من عام 1989 أثبت إمتحان ال أيلتس أنه أداة قادرة على معرفة قدرات الشخص و تمكنة من اللغة الإنجليزية. يعتمد الإمتحان في معظم الجامعات الدوائر الحكومية و المعاهد في بريطانيا, أستراليا, نيوزلندا, كندا, وجنوب أفريقيا. أيضا عدد كبير من الجامعات والمؤسسات التعليمية في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية يعتمد الأيلتس. عالميا أكثر من 3800 جامعة دائرة حكومية ومركز من حول العالم يعتمد ال أيلتس في أكثر من 120 دولة ويتقدم للإمتحان أكثر من نصف مليون شخص سنويا
الإمتحان
ينقسم الإمتحان إلى 4 أقسام ومدته 2:45 ساعاتان و خمس وأربعون دقيقه تتوزع على فترة ممتدة ما بين 3-8ساعات و يتقدم الممتحن لهذه الأقسام تتابعا في نفس اليوم.

الإستماع 30 دقيقه
المحادثة 15 دقيقة
يصحح الإمتحان من 9 أي أعلى علامة ممكنة هي 9 من 9 العلامة النهائية هي متوسط الأربع إمتحانات أذ أن كل إمتحان يصحح من 9 و تعطى نتيجة الإمتحانان بشكل نهائي بالإضافة لعلامة كل جزء من الإمتحان .
خصائص الإمتحان
القراءة
مدة إمتحان القراءة ساعة وهو يضم ثلاث مواضيع مختلفة كل موضوع صفحة واحدة تقريا. بمجموع حوالي 2500 كلمة يجيب الممتحن على 40 سؤال لها علاقة بالمواضيع الثلاثة.
الكتابة
مدة إمتحان الكتابة ساعة واحدة ويتكون من جزئين الجزء الأول عبارة عن كتابة 150 كلمة تكون عبارة عن وصف لشكل معين مبين للممتحن( الرسمة عادة ما تكون رسم بياني أو رسم لنسب معينة شرح لعملية معينة).الجزء الثاني من الإمتحان هو كتابة موضوع تعبير 250 كلمة عن موضوع يكون محدد في ورقة الإمتحان.
الإستماع
مدة إمتحان الإستماع نصف ساعة يتكون من 40 سؤال .يستمع الممتحن لشريط تسجيل وتزيد صعوبة التسجيل مع تقدم وقت الإمتحان بحيث يزداد طول المحادثة والمشتركين فيها .يستمع الممتحن للتسجيل مرة واحدة ويعطى وقت لقراءة الأسئلة وأجابتها .في نهاية إمتحان الإستماع يعطى الممتحن وقتا لا يزيد عن عشر دقائق ليفرغ أجوبته من ورقة الأسئلة لورقة خاصة بالأجوبة
عبارة عن مقابلة شخصية ما بين المتقدم للإمتحان و الممتحن . يجب على المتقدم للإمتحان أن يجيب عن أسئلة الممتحن ويعطي آرائه عن موضوع معين .عادة ما يتم تسجيل المقابلة .
التقدم للإمتحان أكثر من مرة
في السابق كان يشترط على المتقدم للإمتحان أن ينتظر 90 يوم بعد تقدمة للإمتحان كي يتقدم له مرة أخرى من 1\5\2006 تم الغاء هذا الشرط بحيث أصبح للمتقدم إمكانية التقدم للإمتحان بأي وقت يشاء .
